Fraud Prevention

Fraud Prevention Guidelines:

While TirBid had attempted to create an environment where Senders and Providers have every incentive to be honest and professional, no guarantee can be made as to the character or behavior of individuals who use this site. TirBid does not prescreen users of the site, and cannot effectively police the behaviors of users. Therefore, it is important for our users to practice due diligence when it comes to negotiating and transacting with other users on this website or in real life.

Below is a list of common-sense guidelines to help you more prudently use our service.

  • Prepare a basic contract. After a cargo shipment is agreed, the Sender and the Provider should create a written agreement stipulating the details of the deal. This is very important both to ensure both parties are on the same page and as protection in case either party does not fulfill their obligation.
  • Avoid any instant money transfer situation. While TirBid prohibits members from requesting instant payment through cash transfer services (services like Moneygram or Western Union), such scams still may be attempted. If you ever send money through these services, you are unable to know for sure who is receiving the money, and there is no way to get the money back. Please avoid any such transfer services and if they are offered to you please report them to TirBid.
  • Credit cards are preferred. If you use a credit card or a system like Paypal, there are often special protections which help keep your money safe from fraud. If there is a dispute, often credit card companies (or Paypal) will help arbitrate the situation and may be able to get your money back. Please check with your card company for details.
  • Be careful with deposits. Some Providers request partial upfront payments as a security deposit. While this is generally legitimate, it is important you know the details of the deposit, such as if it is refundable of the cargo is not shipped for various reasons. Put these details in the contract as mentioned above.
  • Be smart about who you choose to work with. While the feedback system on TirBid is generally a good guideline as to the reputation of a Provider or Sender, it is not a guarantee. Use good judgment whenever you deal with people with whom you have not yet worked with. The larger the transaction, or the more valuable the cargo, the more crucial it becomes to exercise caution.
  • Gut feelings are good feelings. If a deal seems too good to be true, or if something just doesn’t feel right, then there is no reason to go forward with the deal. It’s okay to ask tough questions and to exercise caution, and if someone gets upset about your questions, then chances are they are hiding something.
